Cumbria Autumn Graded Series

The Cumbria Autumn Graded Series took place over two weekends at Copeland and Kendal pools.

In the 9 year age group Danny Barnes had excellent swims picking up speeding tickets in every event for exceeding the upper time limit, Jack Ivison achieved five speeding tickets and was sixth in the 50m back, Ross Hemsley won three gold, a silver and a bronze and Matthew Banks took bronze in the 50m fly, Eve Dootson, competing in her first gala, won two silver medals in the 50m breast and 100m medley.

The 10 year group saw Chloe Strong pick up first place in the 200m medley, second in the 200m free and third in the 50m fly and free, Katie Edmondson and Caitlin Hughes took bronze in the 200m free and 50m breast respectively and Amber Murphy finished with three sixth places.

11 year old Connor Joyce picked up a gold and a silver in the 400m medley and 200m fly, James Routledge took silver in the 50m back and Daniel Cooper bronze in the 50m fly, in the same age group Jasmin Pritt picked up three gold medals, Rhianne Owen was fourth in the 100m back and and 400m free and Shauna Muir seventh in the 50m breast.

12 year old Amie Ivison swam exceptionally well picking up three golds a silver and two bronze medals, Hannah McGarry was first in the 50m fly and breast and third in the 200m free and Morgan McCutcheon achieved sixth place in the 200m medley.

In the 13 year age group, Matthew Ivison took three golds, a silver and a bronze, Elliot Routledge picked up silver in the 200m fly and Jack Earl was seventh in the 200m free.

The 14 year age group saw Hannah Haney pick up a silver and two bronze medals and Jade Murphy achieved a fourth place in the 200m free.

 

Frenchfield Gala

Workington Swimming Club competed in the Annual Frenchfield gala at Penrith, once again bringing home the spoils.

First off the blocks was Katie Edmondson in the 10/under 50m freestyle, followed by 9 year old Danny Barnes in the boys 50m free, both finishing in first place.

Another win was recorded by the 12/under freestyle team, Amie Ivison, Sophie Little, Connor Joyce and Daniel Cooper who finished well ahead of the field.

Sophie Little won the 50m back, Amie Ivison the 50m fly, Connor Joyce the 50m breast and 11 year old Jasmin Pritt won the girls 50m breast.

Luke Ivison had wins in the 10/under 50m fly and back and 9 year old Jack Ivison won the 50m breast, another two wins were recorded in the 10/under group by Chloe Strong in the 50m fly and breast.

In the 12 year age group, Elliot Routledge won the 50m fly and back and was second in the 14/under 50m fly, also in the 14 year group, second places were achieved by Matthew Ivison 50m back and breast and Paige Jackson, 50m breast, Matthew Ivison and Paige Jackson were joined in the relays by Jamie Edmondson and Jade Murphy to score another two second places.

In the Open Age Group, the mens and womens 50m free was won by Mark Little and Jennifer Brown, with Ryan Robinson third in the 50m fly and Matthew Farnworth and Diana Ridley third in the 50m breast.

The last two races were the girls and boys canon relay with two swimmers from each age group taking part, in the girls event, Katie Edmondson, Chloe Strong, Jasmin Pritt, Amie Ivison, Jade Murphy, Paige Jackson, Diana Ridley and Jennifer Brown just got pipped into second place, while the boys team, Luke Ivison, Jack Ivison, Connor Joyce, Daniel Cooper, Matthew Ivison, Jamie Edmondson, Ryan Robinson and Mark Little, stormed away from the opposition for another fantastic win.

 

Diddy League Grand Final

The 9 year boys’ team, Danny Barnes, Jack Ivison Ross Hemsley and Matthew Banks picked up a first and second in the freestyle and medley relays, while the girl’s team Eve Dootson, Makayla Pietersen, Molly Wren and Jasmine Gresswell picked up a fourth and fifth place in their relays.

10 year old Luke Ivison picked up two third places in the 50m back and free.

The 10 year girls, Holly Lyall, Caitlin Hughes, Katie Edmondson, Amber Murphy and Chloe Strong scored valuable points for the team in both of their relays.

The 11 year boys’ team, Connor Joyce, Daniel Cooper and Nathan Watson were joined in the relays by Luke Ivison to pick up second and third place, Connor Joyce went on to win the 11 year and 12 year boys’ 50m breast and DanielCooper was second and third in the 50m back and free.

The girls’ team, Jasmin Pritt, Sadie Barnes, Shauna Muir and Rhianne Owen were fourth in the medley relay, Jasmin Pritt won the 11year 50m breast and was second in the 12 year 50m breast.

12 year old Elliot Routledge won the 50m fly and back, he was joined in the relays by Connor Joyce, Daniel Cooper and  Nathan Watson to pick up a first and second place.

The girl’s 12yr old team, Sophie Little, Morgan McCutcheon and Amie Ivison were joined by Jasmin Pritt in the relays, gaining more points for the team. Amie Ivison was second in the 50m fly and Sophie Little third in the 50m back.

 

Ulverston Open Gala

Workingtons youngsters competed at Kendal in the Ulverston Open.
In the 12/13 year age group Elliot Routledge took Gold in the 100m Fly, Silver in the 100m Back and 200m Medley and Bronze in the 100m Freestyle.
Matthew Ivison picked up fourth and sixth place ribbons in the 100m Breast and 200m Medley.
The 11 year boys 50m Breast saw Connor Joyce and Daniel Cooper take the top two places, Connor also took Gold the 100m Medley, Silver in the 50m Free and Bronze in the 50m Back, while Daniel took third place in the 100m medley before retiring through injury.
9 year old Ross Hemsley was fourth and sixth in the breast and medley.
10 year olds Chloe Strong and Katie Edmondson swam a brilliant 100m medley, knocking seven seconds and four secs respectively off their best times.
11 year old Jasmin Pritt picked up Bronze in the 100m Breast, Morgan McCutcheon in the 12/13 group and Jade Murphy and Rebecca Kirkbride in the 14/15 group all achieved personal best times.

 

Presidents Gala
Workington’s young swimmers came away with a bag load of trophies and medals from the clubs annual Presidents Gala.

In the 9 year age group, Luke Ivison won the 200m fly, back and free and the 400m free and medley, Danny Barnes in his first gala, picked up three seconds and two thirds, Jack Ivison took two thirds in the 200m fly and 400m medley, Matthew Banks won two fifth place medals and Ross Hemsley achieved three personal best times.

10 year olds Ben Hammond and Ross Wright picked up a third place trophy each in the 200m back and breast.

The 11 year boys dominated their age group, taking the top places in all events, Daniel Cooper had five firsts and a second, Connor Joyce won the 50m free and 200m fly and picked up three second place trophies, Nathan Watson had two seconds and three thirds and James Routledge two thirds.

The 12 year 50m, 200m and 400m free and 200m fly and back were won by Elliot Routledge, Harry Johnston picked up a fifth and sixth place medal in the 200m breast and back.

In the 13 year age group Matthew Ivison won four events, Ben Farnworth took three seconds and Jack Earl two thirds.

Matthew Farnworth won the 14/over 200m breast.

9 year old Cody Sharp achieved a pb in her first gala, Amber Murphy took third in the 50m free,Chloe Strong and Katie Edmondson picked up fourth – sixth place medals and Holly Lyall achieved pbs in the 50m and 200m free.

The 11 year group saw Jasmin Pritt swim a brilliant 400m medley to take first place, Sophie Little was second in the 200m back and Rhianne Owen bettered her personal best times in all of her events.

12 year old Hannah McGarry won th 50m free, Amie Ivison picked up second place in the 200m fly and Morgan McCutcheon was sixth in the 200m breast.

13 year old Larissa Watson picked up two seconds and a third in the 200m fly and breast and 400m medley.

In the 14/over age group, Hannah Haney had second places in the 200m fly and breast, Jade Murphy was second and third in the 400m medley and 200m fly and Eleanor Johnston was sixth in the 200m breast.

Dukeries Gala Sheffield

A small number of Workington swimmers travelled to Sheffield for the Annual Dukeries Gala.

9 year old Luke Ivison was in fine form, winning the 50m Fly, Back and Free and finishing second in the 50m Breast, at the end of the gala he was crowned the Best 9 year old boy.

In the same age group Ross Hemsley took the third place trophy in the Breast and a fifth place medal in the Back, Jack Ivison picked up fifth and sixth place medals in the Breast and Fly.

13 year old Matthew Ivison won three medals in the 50m and 100m Fly and 100m Back.

10 year olds Chloe Strong and Rhianne Owen had solid swims to gain three personal best times each.

11 year old Jasmin Pritt knocked seconds off her Pb to win the 100m Breast, Sophie Little, also 11, picked up two medals in the 50m and 100m Back and was third in the best 11 year girl’s category.

12 year olds Amie Ivison and Morgan McCutcheon and 14 year old Rebecca Kirkbride all achieved personal best times.

The veteran of the group, 17 year old Lorna Hughes, picked up a second and third place trophy in the 50m and 100m Free and a fourth place medal in the 50m Fly, breaking all three club records.

 

Diddy League Round 2

The second round of the Diddy League saw the Workington team travel to Kendal.

The 9 years boys’ team, Jack Ivison, Danny Barnes, Ross Hemsley and Matthew Banks won both of their events, they were joined in the mixed relays by Makayla Pietersen, Molly Wren and Jasmine Gresswell winning all four events.

The 10 year girls’ team, Caitlin Hughes, Amber Murphy, Chloe Strong, Katie Edmondson and Holly Lyall, had a second and two third places, 10 year old Luke Ivison picked up two second places in the 50m back and free.

11 year old Jasmin Pritt also had two seconds in the 50m fly and breast, she was joined in the relays by Sadie Barnes, Shauna Muir and Rhianne Owen where they achieved five third places scoring valuable points for the team. Luke Ivison swam up an age group to join Connor Joyce, Daniel Cooper and Nathan Watson in the 11 year old boys’ team gaining four firsts and a second, Connor Joyce went on to win the 50m fly and breast and Daniel Cooper won the 50m free.

The points were City of Carlisle 191, Workington 151, Cockermouth 141, Kendal 113 and Troutbeck Bridge 38.

The team now progress to the ‘A’ final, held at Kendal in June.

 

Griffin Gala 2011

The Annual Griffin Gala was held last weekend at Copeland pool, in the 12 year age group, in form Elliot Routledge had brilliant wins in the 50m Fly, Back and Free and 100m Individual Medley, taking the trophies for the best 12 year boy and best overall boy. Larissa Watson picked up a sixth place ribbon in the 50m breast.

The 11 year group saw Daniel Cooper pick up three seconds in the 50m Back and Free and 100m Individual Medley. Connor Joyce took the bronze medal in the 100m Individual Medley. Nathan Watson and James Routledge had fine swims to record personal best times. Sophie Little was second in the 50m Back, breaking the 11 year girls’ club record, Rebecca McMinn won two bronze medals in the 50m Fly and Breast and Morgan McCutcheon recorded pbs in all of her swims.

10 year old Jasmin Pritt had excellent wins in the 50m Breast and Free and 100m Individual Medley, she was second in the 50m Fly and third in the 50m Back, she also took the trophy for the best 10 year old girl.

Other swimmers recording personal best times were, Rhianne Owen, Katie Edmondson, Amber Murphy, Chloe Strong , Jack Dixon and Jack Ivison.

The club would like to congratulate Elliot Routledge, Daniel Cooper, Rebecca McMinn, Jasmin Pritt and Amie Ivison as they will be representing Cumbria in the forthcoming Inter Association competition at Macclesfield.

 

Diddy League Round 1

The 2011 Diddy League got under way at the weekend, Workington fielded an under strength team due to holidays and illness but still managed to finish second behind a strong City of Carlisle team.

The 9 year mixed relay teams, Danny Barnes, Ross Hemsley, Jack Ivison, Matthew Banks, Eve Dootson, Jasmine Gresswell, Molly Wren and Makayla Pietersen had brilliant swims picking up three first and three second places.

The boys’ swam up in the 10 year events with Luke Ivison and Jaye Moore for another four second places.

The 10 year girls’ team, Caitlin Hughes, Morgan Cape, Katie Edmondson, Holly Lyall and Chloe Strong scored valuable points for the team with two seconds and a third.

In the 11 year age group, Connor Joyce had a fine win in the 50m breast as did Daniel Cooper in the 50m free, they were joined by Nathan Watson and Luke Ivison in the relays to pick up four fantastic wins.

The girls’ team Sadie Barnes, Rhianne Owen and Shauna Muir were joined by Katie Edmondson, Caitlin Hughes and Chloe Strong to pick up two seconds and three thirds.

Workington were neck and neck throughout with neighbours Copeland but managed to pull away in the latter part of the gala. The final points were: – City of Carlisle 131, Workington 113, Copeland 108 and Cockermouth 71.

The same weekend, 12 year old Elliot Routledge was competing in the Scottish Nationals, he qualified for the 100m backstroke, 200m butterfly, 200m backstroke and 100m butterfly finals finishing a creditable fourth, seventh, eighth and tenth.

Well done to all swimmers!

 

COUNTY AGE GROUP CHAMPIONSHIPS

The County Age Group Championships were held over two weekends at Copeland and Kendal pools.

Elliot Routledge showed his class and proved himself to be the top 12 year old in the County by winning thirteen of the sixteen events and finishing second in the other three, he also qualified for every event in the North West Regional Championships.

In the 9 year age group Luke Ivison also excelled, winning six of his events and picking up two second places and a third, his most exciting swim was the 50m freestyle where he took the victory by 0.01 secs.Jack Ivison, swimming in his first major gala, took two third places in the 50m fly and 200m medley.

Katie Edmondson had an excellent swim in the 200m back for a second place, Amber Murphy was fourth and fifth in the 50m back and 200m free.

10 year old Jasmin Pritt picked up two second places in the 50m and 200m breast and a third in the 200m medley.

In the 11 year age group Hannah McGarry was first in the 50m back and free and had two thirds in the 50m fly and 100m medley,

Sophie Little had second and third places in the 50m and 200m back, Rebecca McMinn picked up two second places in the 200m breast and medley and two third places in the 100m breast and 400m free.

Daniel Cooper had an impressive win in the 200m breast, he also had five second places, Connor Joyce was third in the gruelling 200m fly and Nathan Watson had a good swim in the 400m medley for a fifth place.

12 year old Amie Ivison pulled out all the stops in the 100m fly final to pick up first place, she was second in the 200m fly and third in the 400m medley, Larissa Watson had sixth places in the 50m, 100m and 200m breast.

13 year old Matthew Ivison had a brilliant swim in the 200m breast for third place.

Hannah Fowler, aged 14, won the 50m back in style and Lorna Hughes in the 16/over age group fought hard to win the 100m free, she was second in the 50m free and third in the 200m free and qualified for all three County Finals finishing third, fourth and fifth.

Chloe Strong, Rhianne Owen, Emily Fisher and Hannah Haney all had solid swims to better their personal best times.
