11 year old Elliot Routledge qualified for six events in the National Age Group competition at Ponds Forge Sheffield, it was always going to be tough, with five grueling days of competition ahead of him and nursing a painful injury, but he took it in his stride, soaked up the atmosphere and gained valuable experience. The first three days saw him swim the 100m backstroke, 200m butterfly, 400m freestyle and 200m backstroke, he saved his best performances for the last two days knocking seconds off his 100m butterfly and 400m medley and breaking the fly club record by 3 seconds! Well done Elliot!

North West Regional Age Groups - June 2010Young Workington ASC swimmers faced two gruelling weekends of competition at the Manchester Aquatics Centre. 11 year old Elliot Routledge achieved three National qualifying times in the 400m medley, 200m backstroke and 200m butterfly, breaking his own County age group and club record, Routledge qualified for five finals, he finished seventh in the 200m fly, sixth in the 400m medley and 100m fly and fifth in the 200m back, his best swim came in the 100m back where he battled all the way to pick up the silver medal. 13 year old Oliver Smith finished ninth and tenth in the 200m free and 100m fly, his best event was also the 100m back, in another close final, he finished just outside the medals in fourth place. 10 year olds Connor Joyce, Rebecca McMinn and Sophie Little were all competing in their first major gala and picked up some valuable experience, McMinn achieved personal best times in the 100m breast, 200m medley and 400m freestyle, Little swam the 100m and 200m backstroke, breaking the 100m club record, Joyce had a solid swim in the 200m medley. |
Inter Association CompetitionNine swimmers from Workington ASC travelled to Bury over the bank holiday weekend to represent Cumbria in the Inter Association Gala.
11 year old Elliot Routledge had a brilliant weekend, he finished second in the 50m fly, breaking the club record, was third in the 50m backstroke and fourth in the 200m backstroke. Routledge was second in the 200m fly and 400m freestyle, breaking both club records and also broke both the county age group records and achieved the 400m freestyle National Qualifying Time.
13 year old Oliver Smith also excelled in the competition winning the 100m backstroke and finishing second in the 100m fly and freestyle and 200m backstroke, he was fourth in the 200m medley, Smith also broke three club records.
In the 10 year age group Daniel Cooper achieved pbs in the 200m breast and free and 400m free, Ben Gilmore had solid swims in the 50m fly, 200m back and 400m free to add to Cumbria's points total, Connor Joyce was seventh in the 200m medley in a personal best time.
11 year old Amie Ivison swam the 100m and 200m fly, bettering her personal best times in both events and breaking the 200m fly club record. 10 year olds Sophie Little and Katie Suitor finished third and fourth in the 50m back and Little also competed in the 200m back where she broke the club record, Rebecca McMinn also 10, picked up a pb in the 200m breaststroke.
